Easton, Newman, Kentwood among top seeds in eight divisions for LHSAA football playoffs

Eight teams, including two New Orleans schools and one from Tangipahoa Parish have earned top seeds for the LHSAA Prep Football playoffs.

On the Select side, Warren Easton (9-1) receives the top seed in Division I. The Eagles get a bye, advancing to the regional round to face the winner of No. 16 Tioga and No. 17 Captain Shreve.

Defending Division I state champion Catholic of Baton Rouge (9-1) gets the second seed with a bye and the Bears get the winner of the first-round matchup of local teams as No. 18 John Ehret (5-5) faces No. 15 Archbishop Rummel (5-5) Friday night at Joe Yenni Stadium.

John Curtis Christian (8-2) is the third seed with a bye and the Patriots get a bye before facing the winner of Friday’s opening round game pitting No. 19 Jesuit (4-6) at No. 14 Huntington (6-4).

St. Augustine (7-2) is the fourth seed with a bye. The Purple Knights receive a bye and they will face the winner of No. 20 Woodlawn of Baton Rouge and No. 13 Brother Martin (5-5). St. Augustine edged the Crusaders 14-13 last Friday night in District 9-5A action.

The best team in the class and in any class in Louisiana is Karr.

The Cougars (6-3) are seeded seventh and have a bye before taking on the winner of No. 10 Scotlandville and No. 23 East Jefferson. Karr defeated Scotlandville 46-8 on the field in the regular season before having to forfeit the victory to the Hornets.

St. Paul’s (6-4) has won four straight games and gets the 12th seed and the Wolves host No. 21 Holy Cross (3-7). St. Paul’s beat Holy Cross 9-7 in the 2019 Division I playoffs.

Riverdale (3-7) is the 24th seed and the Rebels have a very tough assignment, traveling to traditional power and No. 9 seed Acadiana.

In the Non-Select Division I bracket, Ruston (9-1) is the top seed. The Bearcats have won nine straight games and receive a bye before facing the winner of No. 17 Ouachita Parish and No. 16 Hahnville (6-4), who play Friday night at Boutte.

Neville (7-2) is the second seed. The Tigers receive a bye before taking on the winner No. 15 East Ascension and No. 18 West Ouachita.

Unbeaten Destrehan (10-0) gets the third seed. The Wildcats may be the favorite in the class and receive a bye before meeting the winner of No. 14 Dutchtown and No. 19 Parkway in the regional round.

Southside (9-1) is the fourth seed and the Sharks get a bye before taking on the winner of an inner-city rematch pitting No. 20 Salmen (5-5) at No. 13 Northshore (7-3). The Panthers routed the Spartans 52-21 at home on Sept. 9.

Slidell (8-2) gets the seventh seed but the Tigers face an unenviable rematch against District 6-5A rival and No. 26 seed Hammond (5-5). Slidell beat the Tornadoes 32-21 at home on Oct. 7.

No. 11 East St. John (8-2) looks to shake a two-game losing streak when the Wildcats host No. 22 Walker at Joe Keller Stadium.

Belle Chasse (6-4) gets the 23rd seed and the Cardinals travel to defending Class 4A state champion Westgate.

Covington (5-5) is the 24th seed and the Lions travel to No. 9 Denham Springs.

Ponchatoula (5-5), in the Class 5A title game a year ago, is the 25th seed the Green Wave face a long trip to take on No. 5 Benton.

St. Thomas More (9-1), who won the Division II state title in 2020, is the top seed in the Select Division II playoffs. The Cougars receive a bye before squaring off with the winner of No. 17 Helen Cox (4-6) at No. 16 St. Michael’s.

Teurlings Catholic (9-1) is the second seed. The Rebels get a bye before taking on the winner of No. 15 Carver (4-5) and No. 18 Booker T. Washington of New Orleans (4-6).

Unbeaten De La Salle (10-0) is the third seed. The Cavaliers receive a bye before meeting the winner of the game sending No. 19 Vandebilt Catholic to play No. 14 Landry (4-5) at Behrman Stadium.

E.D. White Catholic (9-1) earned the fourth seed and a bye. The Cardinals will take on the winner of No. 20 Istrouma at No. 13 Evangel Christian.

John F. Kennedy (9-1) is the fifth seed with a bye. The Cougars await the winner of No. 12 Kenner Discovery (7-3) and No. 21 Archbishop Hannan (3-7).

Archbishop Shaw (8-2) has won seven straight games and has the seventh seed with a bye. The Eagles will play the winner of the first round game featuring No. 23 Douglass (3-5) against No. 10 Livingston Collegiate (8-3), a rematch contest. The Wolves defeated the Bobcats 40-6 on September 16.

No. 11 seed McDonogh 35 (7-3) will play host to No. 22 Peabody.

Iowa (9-1) has the top seed in the Non-Select Division II. The Yellow Jackets have a bye and will play the winner of the game featuring No. 16 Brusly against No. 17 Abbeville.

Unbeaten West Feliciana (10-0) is the second seed and the Saints have a bye before squaring off against the winner of the first-round matchup between No. 15 Erath and No. 18 Eunice.

Opelousas (9-1) is seeded third and the Tigers get the winner of No. 14 Lakeshore (8-2), who will host No. 19 Albany (6-4).

North DeSoto (9-1) is the fourth seed with a bye. The Griffins will get the winner of No. 20 Franklinton (5-5) at No. 13 Cecilia.

Sixth-seeded Lutcher (9-1) gets a home game with No. 27 Wossman.

No. 24 Pearl River (5-5) is at No. 9 Leesville.

In Select Division III, Newman (7-2) is the top seed. The Greenies have a bye and will meet the winner of the first round matchup of No. 17 D’Arbonne Woods visiting No. 16 Sophie B. Wright (6-4).

Defending Division III state champion St. Charles Catholic (7-3) earned the second seed and a bye. The Comets meet the winner of the first round game between No. 18 Patrick Taylor (5-5) and No. 15 Ascension Episcopal.

Notre Dame (8-2) is seeded third and the Pios await the winner of No. 14 Catholic of New Iberia and No. 19 Lake Charles College Prep.

Dunham (9-1) gets the fourth seed and the Tigers get the winner of the first round game sending No. 20 Thomas Jefferson (5-4) to No. 13 M.L. King Charter (6-4).

Defending Division II state champion University Lab is the eighth seed and the Cubs get the final first-round bye before meeting the winner of No. 24 Green Oaks at No. 9 Country Day (5-5).

No. 12 Northlake Christian (7-3) is home against No. 21 Houma Christian.

No. 22 St. Thomas Aquinas (3-7) travels to No. 11 Loyola Prep.

In the Non-Select Division III bracket, unbeaten Many (9-0) is the top seed and the Tigers have a bye before taking on the winner of No. 17 Richwood and No. 16 Caldwell Parish.

Bogalusa (8-1) earned the second seed and the Lumberjacks get a bye before facing a possible rematch with District 7-3A rival Jewel Sumner in the regional round. The Cowboys (5-4) are seeded 15th and host No. 18 Berwick. Bogalusa downed Jewel Sumner 46-27 on October 14.

Union Parish (9-1) is he third seed with a bye. The Farmers will take on the winner of No. 14 Sterlington and No. 19 Baker. Union Parish beat 1-3A rival Sterlington 29-21 on October 13.

St. James (8-2) is the fourth seed and the Wildcats have a bye. St. James will take on the winner of No. 13 Loreauville and No. 20 Vidalia.

No. 8 Pine (6-3) will entertain No. 25 Westlake.

No. 12 South Plaquemines (6-3) has won five straight and the Hurricanes host No. 21 St. Helena (5-5).

Defending Class 2A state champion Amite (7-3) is seeded seventh and gets a home game with No. 26 Rayville.

Unbeaten Vermilion Catholic (10-0) gets the top seed in Select Division IV. The winner of No. 17 Slaughter Community Charter at No. 16 Cedar Creek will face the Eagles in the regional round.

Central Catholic (8-2) receives the second seed and gets a bye before taking on the winner of No. 18 St. Edmund at No. 15 Opelousas Catholic.

Perennial power Ouachita Christian (9-1) is seeded third and the Eagles have a bye before meeting the winner of No. 19 Covenant Christian at No. 14 Sacred Heart.

St. Martin’s Episcopal (9-1) is the fourth seed. The Saints have a bye and will take on the winner of No. 20 St. John at No. 13 Delhi Charter.

Riverside Academy (9-1) is seeded seventh and the Rebels have a first-round bye before meeting the winner of No. 23 Lincoln Prep at No. 10 Ascension Catholic.

In Non-Select Division IV, Kentwood (9-1) is the top seed. The Kangaroos receive a bye before meeting the winner of No. 17 East Beauregard at No. 16 General Trass.

Defending Class 1A state champion Homer (7-3) is seeded second with a bye before meeting the winner of No. 18 at No. 15 Jeanerette.

No. 3 Mangham (8-1) has a bye and will meet the winner of No. 14 Grand Lake and No. 19 LaSalle in the regional round.

Basile (9-1) has the fourth seed and a bye. The Bearcats (9-1) will take on the winner of No. 13 Oberlin and No. 20 Gueydan.
