NEW ORLEANS – Kyle Khachadourian quieted the Bearkat bats late for the save and the New Orleans Privateers scored a 9-7 win in the series opener against Sam Houston. The Bearkats took the second game 12-4.

Khachadourian picked up his second save as he entered with a one-run lead in the fifth inning. He proceeded to limit Sam Houston to one hit over the final three frames. Khachadourian secured the eighth save by Privateer pitching this year.

Chris Turpin moved back into the team lead in wins after he picked up his fifth of the season. After the day’s start, he has 63 strikeouts to seven walks on the season.

The Privateers busted out for eight runs in the first two innings. After the Bearkats took an early 2-0 lead, Luther Woullard and KC Simonich hit back-to-back homers to put the Privateers ahead 3-2.

Sam Houston briefly tied the score in the top of the second but the Privateers busted out for five in the bottom of the frame to build an 8-3 lead. Woullard homered as part of the inning and in the process, posted his second two-homer game of the season.

Gaige Howard’s two-run double and Travis Gober’s solo home run to lead off the frame also featured against starter, Tyler Davis.

Darren Willis had four hits and two walks over the two games. His inside-the-park home run in game two was the first by a Privateer since Nick Schwaner accomplished the feat in Mar. 2010.

Sam Houston scored five in the third and four in the fourth to jet to a 9-0 lead. The Bearkats collected 17 hits in the victory and Dominic Robinson struck out eight over 5.1 innings on the mound.
