Early offense guides LSUE to weekend sweep of North Lake College
EUNICE, La. – Big offensive innings were a theme for LSU Eunice Baseball to start 2022 and it continued Sunday. The Bengals (3-0) used an eight run first inning to help take down North Lake College 12-5 at Bengal Stadium.
The victory made it seven straight seasons LSUE has opened the season with a weekend sweep.
It was the Blazers that got on the scoreboard first, using a three-run home run to take the temporary lead.
That would wake up the Bengal bats as they would cross eight runs using North Lake miscues for their fourth inning of seven-plus runs this weekend. LSUE used seven free passes, a balk and two hits in the inning. The big hit came from Kole Myers in his second at-bat of the inning, emptying the bases with a three-run double for the final runs of the inning.
LSUE would manufacture runs the next two innings off a Reed Eason bases loaded walk and Parker Coley RBI single. Coley would drive another run in the fifth inning, part of a 3-for-3 afternoon for the freshman.
Darian Richard added the final run for the Bengals with a sacrifice grounder in the fifth inning to plate Cole Romero.
The Bengals would see six different arms get action, none throwing more than two innings. Dylan Beier grabbed the win after an impressive two innings of no-hit relief. LSUE would tally double digit strikeouts again, totaling 11 on the afternoon with both Dalton Burrell and Grant Fontenot leading that charge with three apiece.
LSU Eunice returns home next weekend for a series against National Park College. The action starts 6:00PM at Bengal Stadium on Friday. All games can be seen live on the LSUE Digital Network presented by Opelousas General Health Systems.
