Duplantis wins European Indoor title

Baton Rouge, La. – Former LSU track and field member Mondo Duplantis won the first major indoor pole vault title of his career on Sunday with a clearance of 6.05 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland.

The 21-year-old entered the competition at a height of 5.60 meters before progressing to a bar 5.80 meters. He cleared 5.85 meters on his third jump of the day to seal the win as he was the only athlete able to clear that height. He then progressed to a meet record height of 6.05 meters that he cleared on his second attempt.

Duplantis then took three tries at a world record height of 6.19 meters, but was unable to clear in three attempts. Mondo owns the world record with a clearance of 6.18 meters that he registered in Glasgow in 2020.

Duplantis will now shift his focus to the outdoor season.
