Drawing goes in Pelicans’ favor for potential NBA draft spot

The New Orleans Pelicans may end up with No. 7 overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft. It could be higher if they draw a top four lottery pick next month but it could also end up a little lower.

The tiebreaker coin flip was held Friday by the league to break a three-way tie between the Pels, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Dallas Mavericks after the trio finished the regular season with 33-49 records.

The Grizzlies ended up with the No. 8 spot while the Mavericks had to take No. 9 in the pecking order. However, the NBA draft lottery odds for the three teams are equal – a 6% chance at the top overall pick and 26.1 percent chance at drawing a top four position.

New Orleans could draw a spot in the top four or end up anywhere from the No. 7 to No. 11 overall pick depending on the May 14 lottery results:
