Volleyball: Dominican downs SJA in battle of unbeatens, Belle Chasse hands Landry first loss

Area Prep Volleyball Report for Friday, Oct. 2

It was a battle of unbeatens Thursday in Baton Rouge with two teams that could collide at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner in November.

In the end, the team that is No. 1 in the Division I power ratings emerged victorious as Dominican downed St. Joseph’s Academy 24-20, 25-19, 9-25, 25-19.

Senior Elizabeth Hardouin led the way for Dominican with 10 kills, 19 digs and an ace and an assist for Dominican. Sophomore Anne Hardouin had 10 kills, four digs and an ace and an assist. Junior Kate Baker had five kills, 31 assists, 15 digs and three blocks.

Junior Anna Musso led the Redstickers, who are third in the Division 1 power ratings, with nine kills and 20 digs.

Dominican (12-0) will face two tough matches Saturday on the road, taking on E.D. White Catholic and Assumption while St. Joseph’s Academy (8-1) also faces a very tough test on the road Saturday at St. Thomas More at noon.

At home, Belle Chasse outlasted Landry in a five-set dual, winning 25-23, 15-25, 19-25, 25-15, 15-3, handing the Chargin’ Bucs their first loss of the season.

Sophomore Nya St. Cyr led the Cardinals with 21 kills, 20 blocks, 5 digs. Senior Janice Jordan had five kills, seven blocks and a dig. Sophomore Jerne Colin dished up 31 assists and 19 digs.

Belle Chasse (6-5) will play at defending Division V state champion Country Day Saturday at 10 a.m. The Chargin’ Bucs (7-1) return to action next Tuesday at John Ehret at 4:30 p.m.
