Dominican, MCA, Mandeville, Newman, Ursuline, Christ Episcopal, St. Martin’s advance to state golf tourney

Seven area girls teams qualified for the state tournament in LHSAA Regional golf competition at Beaver Creek Golf Course in Zachary.

In Division I, Region II competition, Dominican was the top qualifier with Mount Carmel Academy second. Mandeville qualified as well, finishing fourth.

Top individual qualifiers included Sarah Meral of St. Scholastica, who posted the best score of 72, six shots better than her closest competition. Aubrey Stark of Northshore qualified third with an 84 while Caroline Covington of Denham Springs also qualified.

In Division II, Region II competition, Newman qualified first with Ursuline Academy second, Christ Episcopal third and St. Martin’s Episcopal fourth.

Lisa Lapeyre of Newman was the medalist, firing a brilliant 67.

Top individual qualifiers included Sophia Macias of Episcopal, who shot a 68, Cassidy Lambert of Sacred Heart, Alexis Gonzales of St. Michael and Isabelle LoBue of St. John.
