Trailing 13-6 at halftime, Haynes outscored Kenner Discovery 16-0 in the second half Thursday night en route to a 22-13 District 10-3A football victory at Joe Yenni Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (5-4-1, 1-2) got a solid rushing attack from fullback Paul Longo and tailback Jacob Meilleur to secure the victory.

Longo finished with 14 carries for 109 yards and one touchdown. Longo’s 49-yard touchdown run, late in the third quarter, pulled the Jackets to within one point of the Swamp Owls at 13-12. Haynes elected to go for the two-point conversion and Longo’s run was successful. The Jackets had their first lead of the game at 14-13 and 1:10 left in the third.

On its next possession, Haynes put together a six-play, 42 yard drive for its final touchdown. Quarterback Zach Bott had a 14-yard touchdown run as the Jackets lead grew to nine points with 7:45 remaining in the game.

The defense played a stellar game all night for Haynes. The Jackets allowed 33 rushing yards in the first half and 27 in the second.

On its last possession, Kenner drove down to the Haynes five-yard line with 3:20 remaining in the game. However, a five yard penalty followed by a minus-6 yard quarterback sack made it fourth down. The Swamp Owls pass was incomplete and Haynes took over and was able to runout the clock for the victory.

Meilleur had 12 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown.
