Twice is nice when it comes to East Feliciana and Episcopal.

The two rivals are scheduled to play their regularly scheduled District 6-2A contest on October 29 but in the interest of both schools and their young men having a chance to play, the Knights will travel to East Feliciana this Friday night at 7 p.m.

Episcopal had its season opener with St. Michael canceled while East Feliciana had its game with West Feliciana canceled.

The Tigers were scheduled to host South Plaquemines this week but the Hurricanes had to cancel while the Knights were scheduled to play at St. Thomas Aquinas, who had to cancel.

“Our school got power last Friday and we will practice today for the first time in a while,” Bourgeois said. “East Feliciana was in the same boat. There is so much unknown about who can play and who cannot. It’s Monday and we had no opponent. We both agreed that if we could not find a non-district opponent, we would go there and play.

“It’s all about the kids having a chance to play. They missed so much last year. It returns the kids to some sense of normalcy. I still don’t have power and some of our kids do not, either. It is not mandatory. I think we will have the majority of our kids.”

East Feliciana coach Darius Matthews says his school and young men made out pretty well, overall, from the storm.

“We did pretty good, though we will have kids back,” Matthews said. “It is all about giving the kids an opportunity to play. We only got to play six games last year and we already lost a game this year. We just want to give them motivation and to give them something to do. Coach Bourgeois and I were on the same page.

“Right now, we probably have about 95 percent of our kids back. It helps to not have to play them again to week nine. We know each other very well. We both agreed that we both just needed to play and we know they are always good.”
