NEW ORLEANS (DU) – A challenging schedule awaits the Dillard women’s basketball team for the 2019-20 season, highlighted by home games at Dent Hall against NCAA Division II member LeMoyne-Owen and NAIA semifinalist Our Lady of the Lake.

Dillard’s schedule includes seven teams that competed in last year’s NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship. The Lady Bleu Devils will host 13 games at home, including the season opener on Oct. 26 against Mobile.

The Lady Bleu Devils continue their tough non-conference schedule against three teams that qualified for the NAIA Tournament last season. Dillard will first host LSU-Alexandria (Oct. 28) and then head to Tennessee for the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Classic where they will face Campbellsville (Nov. 1) and host-Bethel (Nov. 2). LSU-A and Campbellsville both advanced at the national tournament reaching the Round of 16 and quarterfinals, respectively, while Bethel fell in the first round.

Dillard will then host LeMoyne-Owen (Nov. 8) for homecoming before a three game road stretch beginning with two games in the LSU-Shreveport Classic. The Lady Bleu Devills will play host-LSU-S on Nov. 15 and Texas A&M-Texarkana on Nov. 16. LSU-A will host Dillard on Nov. 19 to complete their home-and-home series.

Other notable non-conference games include games against William Carey (Nov. 25), Jarvis Christian (Nvo. 27) and Wiley College (Nov. 28). Dillard will have a tough stretch of games to close out 2019 beginning with national qualifier Loyola (La.) (Dec. 3), Mobile (Dec. 28) and William Carey (Dec. 30). The Lady Bleu Devils close out non-conference play against national semifinalist Our Lady of the Lake on Jan. 4, 2020.

Dillard will begin defense of its Gulf Coast Athletic Conference title at Talladega on Jan. 11 as part of a 14-game league schedule.

The Lady Bleu Devils’ conference slate includes home-and-home sets with Xavier (La.), Philander Smith, Rust, Edward Waters, Talladega, Tougaloo, and Southern University at New Orleans. Last season, Xavier and Talladega both qualified for the NAIA Tournament. The GCAC Basketball Tournament is March 6-8 (Friday-Sunday) in New Orleans.

The Dillard women’s basketball program has seen a resurgence in the last few years under the tutelage of head coach Norbert Rome and associate head coach Loretta Martin. In the last two seasons, the Lady Bleu Devils made two appearances at the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship (2018-19), won back-to-back conference tournament titles (2018-19) and one regular season title (2018). Since 2016, the Lady Bleu Devils are 63-27 (.700) overall and have won 20 games or more in the last two seasons (2017-19). In his six seasons, Coach Rome is 91-73 (.554) overall and 42-34 (.552) in league play.
