Diaz’s four-hit night helps Baby Cakes past Dodgers
Oklahoma City – Friday was a huge day for second baseman Isan Diaz. The New Orleans standout was selected to play in the MLB Futures Game during the afternoon and delivered a four-hit performance with a home run and four RBIs in the evening as the Baby Cakes defeated the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 9-7.
The win earned the ‘Cakes a split in the four-game series.
Robert Dugger earned the win, pitching five innings. Brian Moran delivered three shutout frames in relief followed by the 11th save of the season by RJ Alvarez.
Lewis Brinson and Peter O’Brien each added home runs as the ‘Cakes also matched a season high with five stolen bases,
New Orleans scored runs in each of the first six innings of the game. The ‘Cakes improved to 44-37 to trail first place San Antonio by six games.
GAME NOTES – Miami recalled reliever Jeff Brigham and assigned catcher Wilkin Castillo to the ‘Cakes. New Orleans stole five bases in the game, the club has 92 stolen bases for the season and have stolen at least two bases in five of the last six games. Major League Baseball announced that Isan Diaz and Monte Harrison will participate in the Futures Game at this year’s All-Star Week in Cleveland. Miami will also send pitcher Sixto Sanchez, currently pitching at Class AA Jacksonville, to the exhibition game.
