Detillier of Southeastern, McNeill of Nicholls are winners of Southland Softball Player of the Week accolades
FRISCO, Texas – Maria Detillier of Southeastern won Hitter of the Week honors and Audrey McNeill of Nicholls won the Pitcher of the Week award as the Southland Conference Softball Player of the Week awards for the fifth week of the 2023 season were announced Monday by the conference office.
Hitter of the Week: Maria Detillier, Southeastern – Fr. – INF – Gramercy, La. (Lutcher HS)
Detillier batted .438 in SLU’s five games that closed out a 21-game road swing. She had two hits in a 7-1 win at Southern Miss Wednesday and at Mississippi State Thursday. She closed out the week with a 3-for-4 showing in a 7-2 win over ETSU. In her debut collegiate season, the freshman has earned a spot as the starting third baseman and is currently third on the team in batting average and tied for second in home runs.
Pitcher of the Week: Audrey McNeill, Nicholls – Jr. – RHP – Plano, Texas (Plano Senior HS)
McNeill led the Colonels to a series win in their Southland opener, tossing complete games in both victories against UIW. She tossed all five innings of the run-rule victory on Friday, surrendering only two late runs in the fifth. She came back and pitched a seven-inning shutout on Saturday and allowed just three hits — all singles. For the series, she was 2-0 with a 1.17 ERA and struck out seven in 12.0 innings.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
