Destrehan’s Kirk Merritt signs futures contract with Saints

Wide receiver Kirk Merritt, who spent two years with Miami Dolphins, signed a futures contract with the New Orleans Saints this week.

The Destrehan high alum who had 1,058 yards from scrimmage and scored 11 total touchdowns as a prep senior signed with Oregon but made stops at Texas A&M and East Mississippi Community College before becoming a first team All-Sun Belt receiver for two years at Arkansas State.

With the Red Wolves, the 6-foot-1, 214 pounder caught 153 passes for 1,811 yards and 19 touchdowns.

The 25-year old Merritt played in three games over the past two seasons with Miami after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent.
