Destrehan quarterback Jai Eugene Jr. has been selected as the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Prep Player of the Week for the metro New Orleans area for week 12 by the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club, Crescent City Sports, NASH ICON 106.1 FM and WGNO/WNOL Friday Night Football.

A senior, Tulane commit and the son of former LSU star Jai Eugene Sr., Eugene Jr. completed 11 of 13 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 11 times for 129 yards and three touchdowns as Destrehan remained unbeaten with a 35-14 win over Dutchtown in the Non-Select Division I regional state playoffs.

Eugene is coached by Marcus Scott.

“He is very important to our success,” Scott said. “He has sacrificed the most for this program. He could be a top 300 player in the nation as a defensive back but he is willing to play quarterback to make our team better,” Scott said. “We go as he goes. He is a large reason why we are unbeaten and in this position.”

Sponsored by the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, Eugene, recently named the Offensive Most Valuable Player in District 7-5A, will be honored at the year-end meeting of the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club on Tuesday, December 13 at The Cannery in New Orleans.
