NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State baseball team will be the No. 7 seed in the 2019 Southland Conference Tournament, which begins Wednesday at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas.

The Demons will open tournament play against Central Arkansas at noon Wednesday in the second game of the event.

Northwestern State (30-23, 15-15) and the Bears (29-25, 19-11) have not met this season and have not played each other in the conference tournament since 2015.

The defending tournament champion Demons and Bears share a side of the bracket with No. 3 seed Southeastern Louisiana and No. 6 seed Stephen F. Austin, who meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The winners of Wednesday’s matchups face off at 4 p.m. Thursday in a winners’ bracket game while the losers are ticketed for a 9 a.m. Thursday elimination contest.

Top-seeded Sam Houston State, No. 4 seed Incarnate Word, No. 5 seed McNeese and No. 8 seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi comprise the other half of the bracket.

Northwestern State clinched a berth in its second straight conference tournament and fifth in the past six seasons with a win in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader at Sam Houston State.

Tickets for the event, which runs Wednesday-Saturday, are available at www.southland.org/baseball or by phone at 281-240-4487. They also can be purchased in person at the TDECU Ticket Office at Constellation Field.
