Delgado takes double-check from Elgin at Disney Sports Complex

Delgado defeated Elgin Community College in both games of Wednesday’s doubleheader at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort.

In the first game, Brock Slaton reached on a walk and Jake Kaufmann was hit by a pitch to open the second inning. Slaton scored on a single by Tyler Cook. Kaufmann would score on a bases loaded walk by Cade Pregeant and Cook scored on an infield error to give Delgado the 3-0 lead through two innings.

Slaton and Kaufmann both walked to open the third frame with Slaton scoring on a double by Tyler Cook. Giovanni Licciardi’s two run double plated Kaufmann and Cook. Licciardi scored on a single by Josh Alexander for a seventh Delgado run through three. Elgin scored a run in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk. Jacob Singletary singled to open the fourth abd scored on a triple by Brock Slaton, who scored on an overthrow from the outfield.

Delgado’s final two runs came on a two run single by Josh Alexander in the bottom of the fifth to close the 11-1 mercy rule win over Elgin.

In game two, Elgin took a 1-0 lead on an RBI double in the first inning. Brock Slaton walked to open the Delgado second and scored on an RBI single by Jhonnathan Ferrebus to tie the game. Jake Kaufmann walked and both runs scored on a single by Cade Pregeant.to give Delgado the 3-1 lead through two innings of play.

Jacon Singletary reached second on a single in the third and scored on a single by Cole Stromboe.

Delgado’s fifth and final run came in the fifth inning when Brock Slaton drew a one out walk, advanced on a hit batter and wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cole Stromboe.

Delgado (18-4) will face Rowan College-Cumberland Thursday afternoon.
