Delgado took a 2-1 walkoff victory over Nunez Community College Sunday, capitalizing on an infield error to take its third conference win of the weekend at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

Nunez scored the game’s first run in the second inning when Ashtyn Ellis’ sacrifice fly plated Alex Crews, who reached base on a single.

The Pelicans carried the 1-0 lead through the bottom of the sixth when Jacob Singletary reached on a fielder’s choice, advanced on a walk and hit batter and scored on a groundout by Jake Kaufmann to tie the game 1-1.

In the bottom of the ninth, Cole Stromboe reached on a walk, stole second base and scored on a two base error that allowed Cade Pregeant to reach on the fielder’s choice, lifting Delgado to the 2-1 win.

Kaile Levatino picked up the win, entering the game in the top of the ninth in relief of starter Logan O’Neill (4.1 IP), and Tyler Velino, who held Nunez scoreless for three innings.

Delgado and Nunez will meet in a 6pm game Tuesday at Kirsch-Rooney to close the first round of Region XXIII Division I play. The Dolphins will honor longtime Delgado administrator Harold Gaspard as he celebrates his fiftieth year of service to the college.
