Delgado sweeps Nunez in Wednesday’s conference doubleheader

Delgado swept Nunez Community College in both games of Wednesday’s doubleheader at Suarez Stadium in Chalmette, defeating the Pelicans 13-2 and 18-1.

In the first game, Nunez’s Landon LeBlanc opened the scoring with a solo homerun in the first inning. Delgado answered with a four run third inning, starting with a homerun by Brayden Caskey. Ethan Lege walked and Brennan Lambert reached as a hit batter before Jobee Boone’s homerun gave Delgado a 4-1 lead.

In the fourth, Josh Alexander walked and Connor Feustle singled before an RBI single by Brayden Caskey that scored Alexander. Brayden Jobert’s homerun cleared the bases before another homerun by Ethan Lege gave Delgado the 9-1 lead. In the fifth, Josh Alexander doubled, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brayden Caskey.

Lane LeBlanc’s RBI single in the sixth scored Ethan Lege, who walked before advancing on a double by Jobee Boone. In the seventh, Caskey reached on a single before a home run by Brayden Jobert closed the Dolphins’ scoring before the 13-2 win.

Dwain Guice went the distance on the mound to earn the win.

In game two, Delgado batted around in the third to plate six runs on seven hits, including a homerun by Brayden Caskey and a doubles by Ethan Lege and Brennan Lambert. Five additional runs came in the fourth and seven were plated in the fifth, including three homeruns by Brayden Jobert, Lane LeBlanc, and Chris Collet.

Nunez’s sole run came on a home run by Adrian Auguilar in the fourth inning before Delgado’s 18-1 mercy rule win in five innings.

Ian Landreneau pitched the complete game for the win on the mound.

Delgado (29-11, 11-3) and Nunez will meet Saturday in a 2:00 doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney to close out the Dolphins’ regular season schedule.
