Delgado sweeps Mott in Disney doubleheader Friday

Lake Buena Vista, Fa. — Delgado defeated Mott Community College (Michigan) 8-1 and 4-0 Friday in its second day at the Disney Baseball Spring Invitational at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.

In the first game, Mott scored on a wild pitch in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Jonah Manuel’s solo home run to open the second inning tied the game.

Hayden Fuentes reached on a double, advanced on a groundout. Beau Freeman walked and advanced on a wild pitch that also scored Fuentes to give the Dolphins the lead. Tyler McManus reached on an infield error that plated Freeman. In the third, Ross Scelfo singled and advanced on a double by Jonah Manuel before both runners scored on a single by Hayden Fuentes. Manuel walked to open the seventh inning and Fuentes reached as a hit batter before a wild pitch plated Manuel and a double by Mason Keller scored Fuentes. Keller scored on a fielder’s choice later in the inning for Delgado’s eighth and final run on the way to their 8-1 win over Mott.

Noah Fontenot earned the win on the mound, pitching six innings with David Theriot closing the game.

In game two, Connor Feustle reached on an error during the first at-bat of the first inning and scored on a double by Tyler McManus. Brandon Briuglio walked and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Grant Schulz and McManus scored on a sacrifice fly by Ross Scelfo to give Delgado the early 3-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Cornelius Ford doubled, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Connor Feustle to close out Delgado’s 4-0 win.

Mason Mayfield went the distance on the mound to earn the victory, pitching seven innings and allowing only three hits and retiring the last eight batters in order to complete his shutout of Mott.

Delgado will face Triton College (Illinois) in a 11:00 a.m. (EST) doubleheader on Saturday at the Wide World of Sports.
