Delgado sweeps LSU-A in Thursday doubleheader to improve to 18-5

Delgado swept LSU-Alexandria in both games of Thursday’s twinbill at Generals Field in Alexandria.

In game one, Connor Feustle led off the game with a single in the first at-bat of the game, advancing on a walk before scoring on a single by Grant Schulz. LSU-A took the lead in the second following an RBI triple and double to give the Generals a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth, Tyler McManus reached on a single and Grant Schulz walked before both runners scored on bases-loaded hit batters, followed by a bases-loaded walk by Brandon Duhon for Delgado to retake a 4-2 lead. The Dolphins added a run in the sixth following back-to-back singles by Brandon Briuglio and Tyler McManus with Briuglio scoring on an error for Delgado’s fifth run of the game.

LSU-A added two runs in the sixth following a wild pitch and a double before Delgado closed their 5-4 win.

tarting pitcher Noah Fontenot earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing only two hits and five strikeouts.

Connor Feutle’s solo homerun opened game two as the Dolphins took the early 1-0 lead. In the third, LSU-A reached on a bunt single before advancing on a Delgado error to score and tie the game 1-1.

In the fourth, Tyler McManus led off the inning with a walk, advanced on a wild pitch and a single by Justin Ory, and scored on a single by Jonah Manuel to give Delgado the 2-1 lead. Grant Schulz led off the sixth with a walk, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Justin Ory. Jake Swiacki singled and Jonah Manuel walked before all three runners scored on a double by Lyall Ball to close Delgado’s scoring enroute to a 5-1 win over the Generals.

Brock Theriot earned the win in relief of starter Stephen Klein, who went two innings. David Vial, Kraig Segrave, David Theriot, and Brock Daniels each pitched one inning in relief.

With the win, Delgado improves to 18-5 overall. The Dolphins will meet Wharton College (Texas) in a single, 9-inning game at University of Louisiana’s Tigue Moore Field at Russo Park on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
