Delgado defeated Dakota State (South Dakota) in both games of Sunday’s doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, walking away with two mercy rule decisions.

In the first game, Delgado plated the game’s first two runs following consecutive walks by Brandon Duhon and Brandon Briuglio, scoring on a single by Blake Way and a sacrifice fly by Tyler McManus. Dakota State scored in the second when Hayden Klibbe walked and scored on a single by Kyle Gosh.

The Dolphins batted around in the second to plate seven runs on seven hits including doubles by Blake Way and Grant Schulz and a bases-clearing triple by Brandon Briuglio. Grant Schulz, Blake Freeman, Brandon Duhon, and Jake Swiacki each reached on singles during the inning. A double by Tyler McManus in the third added a run in Brandon Duhon, who reached on a single and a solo home run from Blake Freeman added Delgado’s eleventh and final run in the fourth en route to Delgado’s 11-1 mercy rule decision.

Delgado starter Beau Balado earned his first win of the season on the mound with David Vial closing the game.

In game two, all nine Delgado batters went to the plate in the first two innings to plate five runs in each frame. In the first inning, Brandon Duhon walked to lead off the game and scored the first run on a fielder’s choice by Tyler McManus. Blake Way reached on an error and scored on Mason Diaz’s single before Grant Schulz’s three-run homer cleared the bases.

The second inning saw two Delgado home runs, including a three run homerun by Tyler McManus and a solo shot by Blake Freeman as the Dolphins took a 10-0 lead through two innings. In the third, a single by McManus plated Brandon Briuglio (who reached on an error) and Ian Landry’s two run double to expand Delgado’s lead to 13-0.

Delgado starter Kyle Flettrich earned the win with Noah Fontenot retiring each of the final six batters he faced the end the game en route to the pair’s combined shutout.

Delgado returns to action Wednesday, hosting LSU-Alexandria in a 3:00 doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
