Delgado splits with Brookdale to close Disney appearance

Delgado split a doubleheader Saturday against Brookdale College (New Jersey), falling 4-0 before rebounding for a 10-3 win in game two to close out the team’s annual Disney appearance at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Florida.

In the first game, Brookdale posted three singles in the second to plate two runs. They went on to add a run in the fourth following back-to-back singles and a run in the fifth following Nicholas Carnevale’s double and a groundout. The Dolphins had a quiet game at the plate with only four singles enroute to a 4-0 shutout loss.

Sean Bretz suffered the loss with Noah Fontenot appearing 1.2 innings in relief.

Delgado jump started game two with a three-run first following a leadoff walk by Brandon Duhon and back-to-back singles by Brandon Briuglio and Blake Way, who later scored on a walk by Ross Scelfo and sacrifice fly by Blake Freeman. Duhon tripled in the second and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Briuglio. Briuglio later tripled in the fourth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Blake Way to make it a 5-0 game.

Brookdale’s three runs came in the fourth following a double and two singles. In the fifth, Blake Freeman reached as a hit batter and later scored when Brandon Briuglio was hit by a pitch with bases loaded before Blake Way cleared the bases with a grand slam to pad the Delgado lead enroute to the 10-3 win to earn the split.

Starting pitcher Chris Turpin picked up the win with Daniel Dugas appearing in relief.

Delgado returns to action next weekend, hosting Snead State in a three game slate in New Orleans.
