Delgado splits Tuesday doubleheader against Jones College

Delgado split Tuesday’s doubleheader against Jones College at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, falling to Jones 7-5 before rebounding for a 8-7 walkoff victory.

In the first game, Jones took a 4-0 lead through three innings before Delgado cut their deficit in half with two runs in the third on a triple by Matt Barthelemy and a groundout by Brayden Caskey. Stephen Klein led off the fourth with a single and advanced on a double by Brennan Lambert before scoring on a groundout by Jobee Boone.

Jones expanded their lead by two runs with a double in the fifth. Zane Zeppuhar’s double and Matt Barthelemy’s single added two Delgado runs in the sixth before Jones added a seventh and final run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh before Delgado left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh enroute to their 7-5 loss to the Bobcats.

Dolphins starter Hunter Draper picked up the loss on the mound with Cameron Peairs and Tre’ Dupont appearing in relief.

Jones jumped out with a two run lead through two innings in game two before Delgado sent nine batters to the plate to post five runs on four hits, including a two run double by Connor Feustle. Jones tied and took the lead on a single in the sixth inning and expanded their lead to 7-6 with an RBI single in the seventh.

The Dolphins answered with back-to-back singles by Stephen Klein and Jobee Boone in the seventh. Singletary walked and Lorio was intentionally walked to load the bases before Boone scored on a wild pitch to tie the score at seven. The next at-bat saw a sacrifice fly by Matt Barthelemly to plate Singletary to lift Delgado to the 8-7 walkoff victory.

Tre’ Dupont picked up the win, pitching the seventh inning in relief of starter Ian Landreneau who went 3.1 innings.

Delgado will host Lewis & Clark College Thursday in a 5:00 doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney.
