Delgado splits Saturday doubleheader with Pasco-Hernando, falls 7-6 in extra inning loss

NEW PORT RICHEY, FLORIDA – Delgado split its Saturday doubleheader at Pasco-Hernando State College, defeating Pasco 7-2 and falling to the Bobcats 7-6 in eight innings in game two.

In game one, Delgado jump started the scoring with Michael Stutes’ solo homerun as the first batter of the game. Ethan Lege reached on a single, advanced on a single by Brennann Lambert, and scored on a single by Josh Alexander for the Dolphins’ second run.

Pasco-Hernando’s Michael Machin’s solo homer in the third split the lead in half. In the fifth, Brayden Jobert doubled, advanced on a single by Stephen Klein, and scored on a passed ball. Klein scored on a sacrifice fly by Brennan Lambert and Ethan Lege reached as a hit batter before scoring on a single by Jobee Boone for the Dolphins’ fifth run. Jobert later reached on a fielder’s choice in the sixth and scored on a dropped third strike.

Stephen Klein walked and later scored on a wild pitch. Pasco-Hernando’s Jermaine White homered in the sixth for the game’s final run before Delgado’s 7-2 victory.

Chris Olivier picked up the win on the mound, going the distance, striking out six and walking two.

In game two, Pasco-Hernando struck first with a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly. In the second, Ethan Lege reached on a single, stole second, advanced on a single by Jobee Boone, and scored on an infield error to tie the game 1-1.

Ethan Lege’s solo home run in the fourth gave Delgado a one run lead. A five run fifth inning for the Bobcats was capped off by a three run double by Jackson Ross as Pasco took a 6-2 lead. Delgado chipped away with a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Brayden Jobert, scoring Michael Stutes who singled to reach base.

In the seventh, back to back hit batters gave Delgado base runners before Michael Stutes singled to score Jobee Boone and Brayden Jobert’s two run single plated Chris Collet and Stutes for Delgado to tie the game 6-6. The tie carried through the bottom of the eighth when Pasco’s Diego Garcia led off with a single, advanced on a walk, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Matthew Coker for the walkoff 7-6 win over Delgado.

Reliever Kaile Levatino suffered the loss in relief of starter Cory Cook.

Carson Lore faced two batters in the fifth and Tre Dupont pitched two innings.

Delgado and Pasco-Hernando will close the series with a noon doubleheader Sunday afternoon in New Port Richey.
