Delgado splits Friday doubleheader in “Rags” Tournament

Delgado split its Friday doubleheader in the “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament, falling to Pensacola State College 13-1 before rallying for a 6-2 win over Bryant Stratton in game two at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

Pensacola State College led throughout game one, posting five runs on two hits in the second inning, including a bases-clearing double by Xavier Bussey. The Pirates padded their lead by batting around in the third inning to plate six more runs on five hits included a three run double by Brayden Morrow. Pensacola State added two in the fifth on a two run double by Morrow. Delgado’s sole run came in the third inning on Mikey Stutes’ single that plated Matt Barthelemy, who reached as a hit batter. Starting pitcher Kraig Segrave suffered the loss with Nick Lorio and Colin Bonine appearing in relief.
Pensacola starter David Warren held the Dolphins to four hits enroute to Pensacola’s 13-1 win in a shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

Delgado opened the second game of the pair with a leadoff single by Mikey Stutes in the first inning. Stutes advanced on a walk and scored on a single by Brennan Lambert. In the second, Brayden Caskey singled and Mikey Stutes walked before they both scored on a triple by Connor Feustle to give the Dolphins a 3-0 lead. Bryant Stratton scored its first run in the fourth when Gabe Murillo reached on an infield error and scored on a single by Dalton Baran. In the bottom frame, Connor Feustle’s sacrifice fly scored Brayden Caskey, who reached on a single to start the inning. The Bobcats added a run in the fifth on a double before the Dolphins answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning off of a two run single by Mikey Stutes to close the scoring and secure Delgado’s 6-2 win. Cory Cook went four innings to earn his first win of the season with Zane Zeppuhar earning the save in relief.

Delgado (2-1) will face Pensacola State at 2:00 Saturday as the “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament continues. The opening weekend will close Sunday with an 11:00 am doubleheader.
