Delgado split Wednesday’s doubleheader against LSU-Alexandria, falling to the Generals in a 9-8, extra inning decision before dominating Game two en route to a 16-2 victory.

In game one, Delgado trailed 6-3 through five complete innings before Blake Freeman’s two run homerun in the sixth plated Grant Schulz to cut the Generals’ lead to a run. In the seventh, Brandon Briuglio led off with a walk before scoring on an RBI single by Blake Freeman to tie the game.

The 6-6 deadlock lasted until the ninth when two Delgado errors and two sacrifice fly balls plated three LSU-A runs. In the bottom frame, Dwain Varisco doubled and Ross Scelfo walked before both runs scored on a double by Grant Schulz to cut the lead to 9-8. Blake Freeman reached as a hit batter and stole second before LSU-A retired the side to leave the tying run stranded at second as the Generals walked away with the 9-8 win over Delgado.

Zach Roussel suffered the loss on the mound in relief of starter Collin Kullivan and Dwain Varisco.

Delgado dominated game two, sending all nine batters to the plate in each of the first three innings as the Dolphins combined for 16 runs on 14 hits.

Tyler McManus led the Dolphins offensively with a three-run double in the first and three singles to combine for seven RBIs. Ross Scelfo also had three singles.

Mason Mayfield picked up his third win of the season on the mound with the five inning shutout in a game shortened by the mercy rule.

Delgado travels to Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday.
