Delgado opens basketball season with close win over Holmes

Delgado opened its 2023-2024 basketball season Wednesday, hosting Holmes in the Michael Williamson Center.

Trailing by one in the fourth period, Delgado’s Jamia Singleton’s two-pointer gave the Dolphins the one point lead before planting a free throw to give the Dolphins the last-second 73-71 win over Holmes.

Singleton closed the game wih 25 points, including 11 free throws and six rebounds. Taylor Gordon and Jadah Bedford each had 12 points.

The Delgado Men suffered a 77-63 loss to Holmes, trailing by ten at the half before the Bulldogs expanded their lead in the second half. Connor Trahan led the offense with 13 points by Shyves Johnson had 12 and closed the night with ten rebounds.

Delgado will host Hinds Community College Saturday in the Williamson Center. The ladies’ game tips at 2:00 followed by the men’s game at 4:00.
