Delgado drops Wednesday doubleheader to Wharton College

LAKE CHARLES, La. — Delgado dropped both games of Tuesday’s doubleheader against Wharton College (Texas) at McNeese State University.

In the first game, Wharton took an early 2-0 lead in the first following a four hit frame. Delgado tied the score in the second when Brandon Duhon and Connor Feustle walked and scored on a double by Brandon Briuglio.

Wharton plated four in the second with two runs scoring on a double by Travis Faix.

Jonah Manuel’s solo home run in the fourth added a Delgado run, as did Tyler McManus’ two out double in the sixth to score Brandon Duhon, who reached on a leadoff walk. McManus went on to score an unearned run when an infield error allowed Grant Schulz to reach safely before Wharton closed the 6-5 win over the Dolphins.

Collin Kulivan suffered the loss on the mound with Austin Labat pitching 4.2 innings in relief.

In game two, Wharton dominated the offensively, plating a run in the first, two in the second, solo runs in the third and fourth, three runs in the fifth and a run in the sixth with thirteen total hits en route to a 9-1 win over Delgado.

The Dolphins’ sole run came in the third inning when Jonah Manuel tripled and scored on a single by Connor Feustle. The Dolphins were held to six hits and left six runners on base.

Starting pitcher Noah Fontenot (3.0 IP) suffered the loss on the mound with Zach Roussel (1.2 IP) and Kraig Segrave (1.1 IP) appearing in relief.

The Dolphins will host LSU-Alexandria on Tuesday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
