PENSACOLA, Fla. – Delgado dropped both games of Saturday’s doubleheader at Pirate Park, falling to Pensacola State 1-0 in a pitchers’ dual before suffering a 5-2 loss to Bishop State in game two.

In game one, starting pitchers Jeffrey Wilson (Pensacola) and Turner Toms (Delgado) combined for twenty strikeouts and three hits in a game that came down to two outs in the home half of the seventh inning. Colton Ryals reached on a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and flyout before scoring on an infield error for the game’s first and winning run in the Pirates’ 1-0 win.

Delgado’s sole hit came as a single by Ethan Lege in the first. Pensacola’s first hit came in the fifth inning before Ryal’s single that jump started the seventh inning.

Turner Toms threw the complete game, allowing no earned runs, two hits and striking out seven.

In game two against Bishop State, a sluggish Delgado offense was held to only four total hits, with three of those hits coming in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the seventh, Ethan Lege singled and scored on a double by Jacob Singletary, who scored on a single by Maverick McClure for Delgado’s second run before the Wildcats closed their 5-2 win over Delgado. Prior to the seventh, Delgado’s only base runner of the game came in Cade Pregeant following his double in the fourth inning.

Dwain Guice suffered the loss on the mound with Brennan Hamner and Jeremy Martin appearing in relief.

Delgado (10-6) will travel to Wesson, Mississippi for a doubleheader against Copiah-Lincoln.
