Delgado dropped both games of its Friday doubleheader in Day 2 of the 2018 “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

In the first game, Pensacola State took an early 2-0 lead in the first following a leadoff walk and single, both runners scoring on a groundout and sacrifice fly. The Pirates added two in the second when Malique Foreman reached as a hit batter and later scored on a passed ball. Ryan Brewer’s solo homerun gave Pensacola a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom frame, Delgado’s Blake Freeman led off the inning with a triple before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Grant Schulz for Delgado’s first run. A second Delgado run scored in the third when Brandon Briuglio doubled and scored on a single by Blake Way.

Pensacola sealed the game in the seventh with a two run homerun by Richard Sorrenti as the Pirates walked away with the 6-2 win.

Cole Martin suffered the loss on the mound for Delgado with David Vial appearing in relief.

In game two, Delgado opened the scoring three in the bottom of the first on a double by Lyall Ball. Brandon Duhon doubled in the fourth, driving in Gabe Gravois, and also scoring on back-to-back errors to touch all four bases in the same play to expand Delgado’s lead to 5-0.

In the top of the seventh, St. Joseph batted around to post six runs and take a 6-5 lead over the Dolphins following four walks, two hit batters, and three singles. Duhon singled in the bottom frame and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Justin Ory before Delgado’s rally fell short in St. Joseph’s 6-5 win.

Hayden Onorato suffered the loss in relief of starter Chris Turpin, who pitched six shutout innings. Noah Fontenot also appeared in relief in the seventh.
