Delgado drops doubleheader to Jones County

Delgado dropped both games of Saturday’s doubleheader against Jones County, falling to the Bobcats 6-0 and 10-4 in the twinbill at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

In the first game, Jones capitalized on three singles to take a 2-0 lead in the fifth. Kirkland Trahan’s double in the sixth plated Brandon Hale for a third run. In the seventh, Hale doubled to plate a run and scored on Gabe Lacy’s two run homerun enroute to the 6-0 shutout of Delgado.

The Dolphins were held to one hit, a single by Justin Ory in the second inning.

Daniel Dugas suffered the loss, pitching five innings with Zach Roussel closing the game.

In game two, Delgado took an early 1-0 lead in the second when Justin Ory reached on a leadoff double, advanced on a single by Stephen Klein, and scored on a groundout by Jonah Manuel. The lead carried to the sixth inning when Jones’ Robbie Woody and Jake Mason reached on singles before O’Neill Burgos homered to clear the bases and give the Bobcats a 3-1 lead. A solo home run by Blake Johnson followed for Jones’ fourth run.

In the bottom of the inning, Tyler McManus led off with a single and advanced on a single by Grant Schulz before both runners scored on a single by Justin Ory to put Delgado within a run. Jones answered with a six run, six hit seventh inning, highlighted by home runs by Bailee Hendon and Blake Johnson.

Delgado’s Brandon Duhon reached on a seventh inning single, advanced on a fielder’s choice, and scored on a single by Brandon Briuglio to add a Dolphin run in the bottom of the inning before Jones closed their 10-4 victory over Delgado.

Payton Russell pitched into the seventh inning to suffer the loss with Brock Daniels facing the final eight Jones batters.

Delgado will host Copiah-Lincoln in a 5:00 doubleheader Monday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
