Delgado defeats Wharton, improves to 19-5

Lafayette, La. – Delgado defeated Wharton College 7-3 Monday at Tigue Moore Field at Russo Park.

Ross Scelfo singled in the second, advanced when Jonah Manuel was hit by pitch, and scored on a single by Hayden Fuentes for the Dolphins’ first run. Beau Freeman doubled the next at-bat to score Manuel and Fuentes to give Delgado a 3-0 lead through two innings.

Wharton plated two runs in the third following back-to-back doubles and a bases-clearing triple by Caleb Maly to cut the lead to a run.

In the third, Justin Ory walked and Tyler McManus homered to add two runs to expand the Delgado lead before Ross Scelfo’s solo homerun gave Delgado a 6-2 lead. In the sixth, Wharton’s Travis Faix doubled and scored on a double play to cut the lead in half. In the seventh, a solo homerun by Tyler McManus gave Delgado it’s seventh and final run enroute to their 7-3 win.

Starting pitcher Daniel Dugas picked up third win of the season with Payton Russell (3.0 IP) and Mason Mayfield (3.0 IP) appearing in relief.

With the win, Delgado improves to 19-5 before opening conference play this weekend against Nunez Community College.
