Delgado defeats Triton College to sweep Sunday’s doubleheader

Delgado swept Triton College in Sunday’s doubleheader, defeating the Trojans 8-5 in a comeback win in game one and a 19-3 mercy rule decision in game two.

In game one, Logan O’Neill’s solo homerun in the second inning tied the game 1-1.

The Trojans took a two run lead on Cameron Karczewski’s two run homerun in the third.

In the bottom of the inning, Cade Pregeant reached on a single, advanced on a single by Bryan Broussard, and scored on a fielder’s choice that allowed Jhonnathan Ferrebus to reach base. Delgado took the lead in the fourth on JT Singletary’s two run single that plated Jake Kaufmann, who walked, and Bryan Broussard, who reached on a single.

A two run single by Triton’s Antoine Harris put the Trojans back in the lead in the sixth before Josh Alexander’s three run homerun in the bottom of the inning gave Delgado the lead. Logan Bertucci’s pinch hit single plated Brock Slaton, who reached on a fielder’s choice to give Delgado the 8-5 comeback victory.

Tyler Velino picked up his second win on the mound in relief of starter Carson Lore, who pitched into the sixth inning, allowing one earned run, no walks and five strikeouts. Kaile Levatino retired the Trojans in order in the seventh to close the game.

Delgado dominated game two offensively, combining for 19 runs on fifteen hits in a game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule. The Dolphins sent 12 batters to the plate in the first combining for seven singles and a double, including a two run single by Davis Stephens and a two run double by Josh Alexander. Five batters walked in the fifth, which also included a two run, pinch hit double by Cameron Senior.

Chris Olivier went the distance on the mound, pitching five complete innings, allowing three runs in Delgado’s 19-3 win to improve to 16-4 overall.

#17 Delgado (16-4) will travel to Florida this week for its annual appearance in Disney’s Spring Training Invitational at the Walt Disney World Resort.
