Delgado defeats Pensacola State, falls to Wallace-Dothan in Saturday doubleheader

Delgado split its Saturday doubleheader in Pensacola, Florida, defeating Pensacola State 5-3 and falling to Wallace-Dothan 4-1.

In the first game, the Dolphins got on the board in the first inning when Brandon Duhon, Blake Way, and Lyall Ball each reached on singles and scored on bases-loaded walks for the early 3-0 lead over Pensacola State. In the third, Lyall Ball and Tyler McManus both walked before Ball scored on a single by Jake Swiacki and McManus scored on a wild pitch.

Pensacola State posted a run in the fourth and fifth inning on RBI singles and a third run on a triple. Relief pitcher Brock Daniels closed the Pirate rally to earn the save enroute to Delgado’s 5-3 win. Delgado starter Cole Martin earned his first win of the year.

In the second game, Wallace-Dothan plated the first run of the game on a single by Kody Gratkowski. Back-to-back doubles in the third added a run, as well as an additional run on an overthrow and a fourth run on a wild pitch. Delgado’s sole run game in the bottom of the third when Grant Schulz led off the inning with a single, advanced on a walk and passed ball, and scored on a groundout by Brandon Duhon.

Daniel Dugas suffered the loss while Beau Balado tossed 3.2 innings in relief.

Delgado and Wallace-Dothan will meet Sunday in a single game at noon at Pensacola State College to close the weekend.
