Delgado defeats Nunez in both games of Wednesday’s doubleheader

Delgado swept Nunez Community College in Wednesday’s doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, defeating the Pelicans 5-0 in game one before a 12-2 mercy rule decision in game two.

In the first game, Delgado’s first run came in the first when Brayden Jobert reached on a single and scored on a groundout by Stephen Klein. The Dolphins added two in the third on a double by Klein and a single by Jobee Boone. In the fifth, Ethan Lege reached on a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brennan Lambert before Stephen Klein singled and scored on an error for Delgado’s eventual 5-0 victory. Starting pitcher Hunter Draper went the distance, holding Nunez to three hits and retiring the final thirteen Pelican batters in order.

Delgado opened game two with a three run first inning before posting another five runs in the second off of two singles, three doubles by Brayden Caskey, Brayden Jobert, and Chris Collet, and a triple by Ethan Lege. In the third, the Dolphins batted around for an additional four runs including two bases loaded walks and a two run single by Ethan Lege for Delgado’s twelfth and final runs enroute to a 12-2 mercy rule win in five innings. Lege closed the doubleheader 5 for 5 with a walk, three singles, a double, and a triple. Dwain Guice picked up the win, pitching four innings with Kraig Segrave closing the fifth inning.

Delgado and Nunez will meet in a 1:00 doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Chalmette’s Suarez Stadium.
