Delgado defeats Jefferson College 12-2 to force winner-take-all game in South Central District Championship

SEMNOLE, Okla. – Delgado defeated Jefferson College 12-2 in a six-inning mercy rule decision Saturday in Game 4 of the 2018 NJCAA South Central District Championship.

The win by the Dolphins forces a winner-take-all rematch against JeffCo Sunday at 1 p.m., with the winner advancing to the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. Delgado is seeking its fourth trip to the JUCO World Series in five years and sixth overall.

The Dolphins got a jump-start in the first with six runs on four hits, including a leadoff walk by Brandon Duhon, followed by back-to-back singles by Brandon Briuglio and Blake Way and an error that plated the first run. Tyler McManus reached as a hit batter and Grant Schulz singles to load the bases before Ross Scelfo was hit by a pitch to score Way for the third run. Schulz and Scelfo went on to score on wild pitches. Gravois walked and scored on a single by Beau Freeman.

Delgado turned a 5-4-3 triple play in the bottom of the first inning.

Seminole cut the lead to four with back to back solo home runs by Joey Polak and Nick Hagerdon in the fourth.

In the Delgado half of the fourth, Brandon Briuglio walked, advanced on a single by Tyler McManus and scored on an outfield error. In the sixth, Blake Way singled and scored on a single by Tyler McManus. McManus advanced to third on an error and scored on a single by Grant Schulz, who advanced on a single by Ross Scelfo and a wild pitch. Blake Freeman doubled to clear the bases and lift Delgado to a 12-2 lead that carried Delgado to the mercy rule decision.

Sean Bretz went the distance on the mound for Delgado, pitching six complete striking out seven and walking three Viking hitters.
