Delgado defeats Frontier, Coastal Alabama East to sweep Saturday doubleheader in Pensacola

Delgado defeated Frontier College and Coastal Alabama-East Saturday to sweep both games in Pensacola, Florida.

In game one, Walker Bazile reached on a two out walk before scoring on a double by Giovanni Licciardi for the Dolphins’ first run. Bryan Broussard singled to score Licciardi to give Delgado the 2-0 lead.

In the third, Frontier reached on a leadoff single, scoring on an RBI single. Ruffner walked, stole second and third and scored on an infield error to tie the game at two.

In the fourth, Walker Bazile reached on a walk to open the frame, advanced on a single by Cade Pregeant and a walk by Josh Alexander to load the bases. JT Singletary was hit by a pitch to give Delgado the one run lead. In the seventh, Cole Stromboe walked with two outs and scored on a double by Brock Slaton. Slaton scored on an inside-the-park home run by Jake Kaufman.

Tyler Cook reached on a pinch hit double, stole third and scored on an infield error that allowed Licciardi to reach base. Cade Pregeant reached as a hit batter and Bryan Broussard walked. Licciardi scored on a balk for the fifth and final run of the inning and the game in Delgado’s 8-2 win over Frontier.

Logan O’Neill earned the win on the mound with Kaile Levatino picking up his second save of the season.

In game two, Josh Alexander reached on a single and Jacob Singletary walked before both runs scored on a three run homer by Brock Slaton for the early 3-0 lead. Coastal’s first run came in the second inning on an RBI single by Rigual.

In the third, Bryan Broussard led off with a single, advanced on a wild pitch, and groundout, and scored on a wild pitch.

In the fifth, Dolphins reached on three singles by Cameron Trosclair, Bryan Broussard, and Josh Alexander to add two runs. Alexander scored on Jacob Singletary’s two run homerun to expand the Dolphins lead to seven runs.

Coastal plated two runs in the sixth and a run in the seventh before Delgado closed the door on its 8-4 win. Turner Toms picked up the win with Aidan Murphy closing the final two innings.

Delgado and Pensacola State will meet at 1:00 Sunday to close the four game weekend series.
