Delgado defeats Erie 6-2 to open Disney Invitational

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. – Delgado defeated Erie Community College (New York) 6-2 Wednesday to open their 2019 appearance in the Disney Baseball Spring Training Invitational at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Erie scored the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly in the first before the Dolphins answered with three runs in the bottom frame. Jonah Manuel walked to open the inning, advanced on a wild pitch and groundout, and scored on a groundout by Tyler McManus to tie the game 1-1. Grant Schulz and Justin Ory reached on back-to-back singles and both runners scored on a double by Ross Scelfo to give Delgado the 3-1 lead. Erie scored a run in the fourth on an error to narrow the lead.

In the sixth, Delgado’s Grant Schulz singled and scored on a double by Justin Ory. Delgado added a solo run in the seventh when Brandon Duhon walked and scored on Jonah Manuel’s single.

Another Delgado run came in the eighth following a leadoff run by Brandon Briuglio, who scored on a groundout by Grant Schulz to close the scoring and give Delgado the 6-2 victory.

Daniel Dugas picthed six innings, allowed one earned run and struck out five to earn the win with Dwain Varisco closing the game in relief.

Delgado will face Mott Community College (Michigan) in a 1:00 (EST) doubleheader on Friday at the Wide World of Sports.
