Delgado defeats Coastal Alabama-East 10-8 in Pensacola

Delgado defeated Coastal Alabama-East 10-8 Friday in the first of four games this weekend in Pensacola, Florida.

The Dolphins took an early 4-0 lead in the second following a two-run single by Beau Freeman, a bases-loaded walk by Brandon Briuglio, and a fielder’s choice by Blake Way. Grant Schulz’s triple in the third plated Blake Freeman, who reached on a double. Schulz scored on a single by Beau Freeman for a sixth Delgado run.

Coastal posted solo runs in the fourth on an RBI double and a wild pitch in the fifth. In the sixth, Beau Freeman singled and Brandon Briuglio reached on a fielder’s choice before both runners scored on a double by Blake Way. In the seventh, Brandon Duhon’s single scored Blake Freeman and Hayden Fuentes as Delgado took a 10-2 lead.

In the bottom of the last, Coastal Alabama batted around to post six runs on three hits with two Delgado errors before their rally fell short to Delgado’s 10-8 victory.

Delgado starter Sean Bretz picked up his first win of the season with Zach Roussel earning his first save. Dwain Varisco pitched 1.3 innings in relief.

Delgado will play Pensacola State at noon Saturday and Wallace-Dothan in the second game of the doubleheader.
