Delgado picked up its second win of its young season Friday afternoon with a 13-2 mercy rule victory over Bryant & Stratton College (New York) in Day 2 of the 2021 “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

Trailing by two runs in the fifth, Delgado’s Ethan Lege reached on a fielder’s choice, advanced, and scored on a single by Jacob Singletary and an outfield error by the Bobcats for the Dolphins’ first run of the game. Maverick McClure singled to drive in Singletary and tie the game 2-2.

The Dolphins’ offense kicked into overdrive in the sixth following three consecutive walks and a two run single by Ethan Lege. Singletary walked to load the bases before Lane LeBlanc reached as a hit batter to plate another run. Josh Alexander’s two run double and Jobee Boone’s triple each scored two runs. Brayden Caskey singled to plate Boone before Brayden Jobert’s homerun over the scoreboard plated three runs in the Delgado’s 13-2 walkoff mercy rule in six innings.

Kaile Levatino earned the win after retiring the final two Bryant & Stratton batters with bases loaded in the sixth in relief of starter Cory Cook. Brennan Hamner also pitched 1.1 innings. The Dolphins closed the game with nine hits, its first coming in the third inning.

Defensively, Delgado turned a rare triple play in the third inning on a Cook to Boone to Caskey putout to retire the batter and both base runners and erase the threat.

Delgado will face Pensacola State Saturday in the tournament’s second game, followed on Sunday by a noon doubleheader against Pensacola State and a Monday doubleheader against Bryant & Stratton at 11:00 a.m.
