Delgado defeats Bryant & Stratton 10-4 to close “Rags” Memorial Weekend

Delgado defeated Bryant & Stratton 10-4 Sunday to wrap up its annual “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Weekend at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

Tyler Cook and Jake Kaufmann walked to reach base in the second and advanced on stolen bases. Cook scored on an overthrow and Kaufmann scored on a passed ball to give Delgado the 2-0 lead. Josh Alexander walked to open the third inning, stole second, and advanced on Logan O’Neill’s single before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Cook.

In the fourth, Jake Kaufmann walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Cade Pregeant walked before both runners scored on a single by Josh Alexander, who advanced to second on the throw. Brock Slaton singled to open the sixth, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on another Josh Alexander single.

Bryant & Stratton’s first hit of the game came in the seventh inning before they threatened Delgado’s six run lead by posting four runs on five hits in the eighth following a two run double by Diego Paez and a two run single by Odillio Cespedes.

Delgado countered with four runs in the eighth when Bryan Broussard led off with a triple, scoring on Josh Alexander’s sacrifice fly. Jacob Singletary doubled and scored on a triple by Logan O’Neill, who scored on a double by Cole Stromboe to give the Dolphins the 10-4 lead and eventual win.

Starter Cory Cook earned his second win of the season, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing no hits and striking out eight.

Delgado (10-2) travels to Wesson, Mississippi Tuesday for a doubleheader against Copiah-Lincoln College.
