Delgado Baseball sweeps Friday twinbill with two walk-off wins in “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament

Delgado defeated Pensacola State 8-7 in walk-off fashion in the first game of Friday night’s doubleheader in the “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. Then John Manual scored on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Griffin Vicknair as Delgado took the 10-9 victory over Bryant & Stratton.

The Dolphins overcame a 7-2 deficit in game one by posting five run frame in the fifth to tie the game at 7.

In the bottom of the seventh, Connor Feustle and Brandon Briuglio reached on singles before Grant Schulz’s single plated Connor Feustle to score the winning run in Delgado 8-7 win.

Schulz closed the game 2 for 4 with a solo homerun in the third and his walkoff single in the seventh. Brandon Briuglio went 2 for 2 with two singles.

Brock Daniels earned the win with 1.2 innings in relief of starter Zach Roussel (4.0 IP) and Kraig Segrave (1.1 IP).

In game two against Bryant & Stratton, Delgado posted a four run first inning following three consecutive walks to start the game and a two run double by Grant Schulz, who later scored on a wild pitch.

Bryant & Stratton answered with three unearned runs in the second. In the bottom, Schulz reached on a fielder’s choice to score Connor Feustle who reached as a hit batter. Jake Swiacki’s solo homerun in third gave Delgado a 6-5 lead.

The Dolphins added two runs in the fifth following a leadoff single by Justin Ory, who advanced on a wild pitch and balk and scored on an error. Jonah Manuel walked and scored on a fielder’s choice by Stephen Klein, who later scored on a double by Jake Swiacki to expand Delgado’s lead to 9-5 through five.

The Bobcats added four runs on one hit and two Delgado errors to tie the game 9-9 before Manuel led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk.Stephen Klein reached as a hit batter. Manuel stole third and scored on Vicknair’s sac fly to end it.

Matt Barthelemly picked up his first win of the season, facing one batter in the seventh in relief of starter Mason Mayfield and Brock Theriot.

The Dolphins will face Pensacola State at 2 p.m. Saturday as the “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament continues at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
