Delgado Baseball opens season with 10-2 win over Bryant Stratton
Delgado Baseball opened its 2020 campaign Thursday night with a 10-2 victory over Bryant Stratton (Albany) in the first game of the annual “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
Bryant Stratton took an early 1-0 lead in the second when CJ Givhans led off with a double and scored on a single by Exavier Satiago. Delgado took the lead in the third following a leadoff double by Jobee Boone, who tied the game when he scored on a single by Brayden Caskey. Caskey scored on a triple by Mikey Stutes. Mark Johnston’s single plated Stutes as the Dolphins took a 3-1 lead.
In the fourth, Delgado’s Nick Lorio and Jobee Boone reached on back-to-back singles, scoring on a fielder’s choice and infield error. Delgado added two additional runs in the fifth on a double by Brayden Caskey and two more runs in the sixth on a single by Nick Lorio enroute to Delgado’s 10-2 win over the Bobcats.
Dwain Guice picked up his first win of the season on the mound, pitching four innings and allowing two runs and striking out four. Brock Theriot closed the game’s final three innings.
Delgado (1-0) will play a doubleheader Friday, hosting Pensacola State at 5pm followed by Bryant Stratton at 7:00 as the “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament continues.
