Delgado Baseball captured its seventh consecutive win Sunday following a doubleheader sweep of Pensacola State College and Bryant & Stratton in the final day of the 2022 “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

In Sunday’s first game against Pensacola State, starting pitcher Cory Cook was dominant for the Dolphins, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out six while retiring all but four Pensacola batters.

Offensively, all of the game’s three runs came in Delgado’s second frame on back-to-back RBI singles by Brayden Caskey and Michael Stutes. Caskey plated Cade Pregeant, who reached on an infield error and Stutes scoring Caskey and Bryan Broussard, who reached on a walk.

Jeremy Martin closed the game in the seventh to earn the save in relief of starter Cory Cook as Delgado took the 3-0 victory.

In game two against Bryant & Stratton, back-to-back singles by Delgado’s Jacob Singletary and Coedy Fonseca plated the game’s first three runs. Singletary plated Brayden Caskey, who reached as a hit batter and Fonseca scored Ethan Lege, who walked and Singletary for the third run.

The Bobcats added two runs in the fourth before a balk and single by Singletary added two additional Dolphin runs.

A pinch hit double by Michael Stutes scored Josh Alexander (who walked) in the fifth for a sixth and final run enroute to Delgado’s 6-2 win over Bryant & Stratton.

Tyler Velino earned his first win on the mound with Will Reed earning his second save of the season in relief, retiring all six batters he faced in the final two innings.

With the wins, Delgado (8-2) swept all six of its games in the “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament. The Dolphins will host Copiah-Lincoln in a 3:00 doubleheader Monday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
