Delgado Baseball falls to Pensacola State, 10-4

Pensacola State defeated Delgado 10-4 Saturday in Game 5 of the 2018 “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial Tournament at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.

Pensacola’s James Parris reached on a leadoff single to start the game, stole second, and scored on a Delgado infield error to give the Pirates an early 1-0 lead. Richard Sorrenti’s solo homerun in the third made it a 2-0 game.

In the bottom of the third, Hayden Fuentes reached on a single and advanced to third on a double by Cornelius Ford. Brandon Duhon doubled to score Fuentes. Justin Ory walked before all three base runners scored on a bases-clearing double by Blake Way as the Dolphins took a 4-2 lead.

Pensacola State answered with a three-run fourth, when runners reached on an infield error, three walks, and a single to take a 5-4 lead. The Pirates added four more in the fifth and a run in the seventh to close things out enroute to their 10-4 victory over Delgado.

Delgado starter Sean Bretz suffered the loss with Zach Roussel appearing 3.1 innings in relief.

The Dolphins will close out the weekend with a doubleheader Sunday, hosting Pensacola State at 1:00 followed by a 3:00 game against College of St. Joseph at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
