Free agent cornerback Eli Apple reportedly agreed to a contract in mid-March with the Raiders. It did not turn out that way.

Apple and the Raiders failed to finalize the agreement, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday.

As a result, Apple is back on the market after spending the past season and a half with New Orleans. The Ohio State product came to the saints via in-season trade with the Giants in 2018.

Apple was a starter for the Saints until an ankle injury in late December last year. New Orleans had already picked up Apple’s former New York teammate Janoris Jenkins off of waivers. Jenkins and the Saints agreed to restructure his contract, signaling the end of Apple’s tenure in the Crescent City.
