De La Salle’s Mike Giambelluca takes leave of absence

Michael Giambelluca, President of De La Salle High School, is the man who stood atop the Huey P. Long Bridge Monday threatening to jump off the side, reports WGNO News.

In a statement, De La Salle High School stated that Giambelluca will be taking an immediate leave of absence for medical reasons.

Giambelluca previously served as principal at Jesuit and president at Omaha’s Creighton Prep.

Dear Friends of De La Salle:

We are saddened to have been made aware of the reported incident concerning De La Salle President Mr. Michael Giambelluca. Mr. Giambelluca has taken a leave of absence due to medical reasons, and we ask that you keep Mr. Giambelluca and his family in your prayers during this difficult time.

Please know that while we are praying for Mr. Giambelluca and his family, our commitment to

De La Salle is unflagging, and we will continue to advance our Lasallian mission during Mr. Giambelluca’s medical absence.

We will be discussing this with our students at the appropriate time, and counselors will be made

available to students tomorrow.
