Michael Scanlon, Jr.

De La Salle athletic director Ryan Manale has hired a familiar face to take over its baseball program in Michael Scanlon Jr.

Scanlon previously served as an assistant coach and head coach of the Cavaliers junior varsity team in 2016-17 under previous head coach Rowland Skinner. On May 21, Skinner stepped down as head coach at De La Salle after six seasons. Scanlon is currently serving as the Interim coach for the De La Salle summer team.

Scanlon spent this past season as the top assistant coach at Mandeville and served as the head coach of the Mandeville junior varsity. He also served as head coach of the Louisiana Knights.

A three-year starter as a player at Mandeville, Scanlon earned all-district honors before playing at Delgado and at Bishop State.

“De La Salle is truly a dream job for me,” Scanlon said. “I was fortunate to work at De La Salle for two seasons and found out for myself what a great institution De La Salle truly is. De La Salle baseball is such a proud program filled with passionate people. I am blessed for this opportunity and cannot wait to get to work. De La Salle, Lead On!”

Manale is excited about what Scanlon can bring to the program.

“Michael Scanlon is a fine young coach with a very bright future,” Manale said. “Being able to watch the impact and relationships he built in just two seasons he was at De La Salle was very impressive. I see a lot of me in Michael and love his passion. We were blessed to have many great candidates with impressive resumes.”

In addition, Manale has hired veteran coach Kenny Francinques as the Director of Baseball to assist Scanlon.

De La Salle was 21-10 this past season, falling in the best-of-three Division II playoffs to Vandebilt Catholic two games to one.
