De La Salle handles Pope John Paul II to cap softball regular season

De La Salle closed out its regular season with a convincing 15-5 win over Pope John Paul II on Wednesday in five innings.

The Lady Cavs broke the game open early, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first inning on RBI by Olivia Ianetta, Heidi Scully, Jyah Hamilton, Kylee Sabio and Sophia Gil. Hamilton homered for De La Salle, which belted out 15 hits. Hamilton had three hits to top the Lady Cavs.

Gabi Peri picked up the win for De La Salle, going the distance, allowing five runs on nine hits, striking out seven and walking no one.

Ashley Chighizola took the loss for Pope John Paul II.

Kady Benedic and Payton Callahan each homered for the Lady Jaguars.

De La Salle (9-12) was 12th in the most recent LHSAA power rankings while Pope John Paul II (8-14-1) was seventh in the Division III power rankings as both schools await their playoff assignments.
