After a difficult one-point loss at Hahnville last Friday, De La Salle figured to get well Thursday night in its District 11-3A opener against overmatched Haynes Academy.

The Cavaliers got well, scoring early and often in a 42-0 victory over the Yellow Jackets at Tad Gormley Stadium on Homecoming for De La Salle at Tad Gormley Stadium in a game aired live on NASH ICON 106-1 FM.

The game was played with running time from start to finish.

On its opening possession, De La Salle needed just two plays to score as Cole Milford connected with Kentrell Mollette on a 33-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0.

After freshman Drew Poche intercepted a pass by Chris Melton, Milford hit Jace Bienemy on a 9-yard touchdown pass and it was 14-0.

Myles Sider increased the lead to 21-0 by the end of the first quarter on a 6-yard run.

In the second quarter, the Cavaliers got a short field and drove 22 yards in three plays with Milford connecting with Chris Baxter on a 10-yard touchdown pass to make it 28-0 and the Cavaliers closed out the first half scoring on a 6-yard run by Sider to make it 35-0.

With reserves playing the second half, backup quarterback Mark Dix scored early in the fourth quarter on a 7-yard run to complete the scoring.

Milford completed 5-of-7 passes for 84 yards and three touchdowns with an interception while Sider rushed five times for 52 yards and two scores to pace De La Salle.

Both teams return to action a week from Friday.
